Lake Hamilton senior quarterback Phillip Butterfield headlines the field competing in the fifth annual Sonic Top Gun Challenge July 9 and 10 at Shiloh Christian School at Springdale.
Competitors in the invite-only event are evaluated, instructed and tested in seven events that produce a champion.
Butterfield, a Tulsa commit, passed for more 2,795 yards and 30 touchdowns and ran for more than 300 yards and eight TDs in helping the Wolves to the 2007 6A state title game. Vype High School Sports Arkansas Preview magazine ranks Lake Hamilton No. 1 in 6A.
Pulaski Academy senior Spencer Keith also competes in the event. Keith racked up more than 4,7000 yards and 51 TDs last fall. Keith tore his ACL playing basketball in January but played 7-on-7 this summer. Kansas State, Virginia Tech and SMU have are interested. Little Rock Christian's Griffin Kuhn is another college prospect competing. Kuhn passed for 28 touchdowns last fall.
Other Central Arkansas QBs competing are Arkansas Baptist junior Logan Quinn, Central Arkansas Christian senior Zac Cole and Pine Bluff junior Claude Johnson.
