VYPE HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS MAGAZINE ANNOUNCES THE RELEASE OF ITS INAUGURAL ARKANSAS BASKETBALL PREVIEW ISSUE
The full-color 176-page magazine can be purchased at Wal-Mart, Barnes & Noble, Hastings and other convenience stores and newsstands across the state in November.
SPRINGDALE, Ark. and LITTLE ROCK, Ark, Oct. 27, 2009 – VYPE HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS MAGAZINE is proud to announce the release of its 2009 Arkansas Basketball Preview.
The issue is VYPE’s first effort at a statewide hoops preview publication. The company released its second football preview issue in July and follows the basketball magazine with the second installment of its recruiting magazine. The basketball issue hits newsstands in mid-November and is available statewide at all Wal-Mart stores, Barnes & Noble, Hastings and other fine magazine retailers.
“We are glad to fill a void for basketball fans in our state,” said VYPE Arkansas Market Director Kenyatta Wright. “We heard feedback from fans and coaches about how little basketball information there is out there. We hope this issue keeps them informed and entertained for years to come.”
The magazine previews all of the boys and girls teams from 7A to 5A and offers an overview for each of the four remaining classes. There are VYPE/AAA Coaches’ Polls and an All-VYPE Squad for all classes.
“There are close to 300 schools playing basketball in the state, so we spent hours researching players and teams,” VYPE Editor Mike Capshaw said. “We couldn’t preview all 600 teams, but with the help of the coaches we were able to highlight a lot of teams and deserving players.”
Like the football issue, there is also the VYPE-U section, which previews the five in-state Arkansas Division I men’s and women’s programs — Arkansas, Arkansas-Little Rock, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Arkansas State and Central Arkansas. The story is accompanied by a list of returners and newcomers and a 2009-10 schedule. A feature story on senior Razorback forward Michael Washington kicks off the VYPE-U section.
The magazine is also packed with exclusive features. The cover story (Triplets 2.0?) examines top junior recruits Aaron Ross (Parkview), Ky Madden (East Poinsett Co.) and Hunter Mickelson (Westiside). Several schools have offered the trio scholarships, including Arkansas. Ross has already committed to UA and tries to woo his AAU teammates to join him in Fayetteville. There are also features on Conway’s dynamic duo — Kenyon McNeaill and Preston Purifoy, Northside’s rich tradition, Arkansas –Fort Smith’s move from junior college to Division II , Fayetteville blonde bombers Sierra Shipley and Calli Berna and much more.
“This the only place you’ll find many of these stories,” VYPE Editor Nate Olson said. “We pride ourselves in finding interesting and unique angles that highlight players and coaches statewide. Razorbacks fans won’t want to miss the cover story. We are the first publication to highlight a trio that could reinvigorate Razorbacks basketball.”
Also in the features section is VYPE’s recruiting rankings for boys and girls basketball and updated rankings for football. The magazine also features its regular monthly departments like Family Affair, Triple Play and Picture This — a statewide pictorial of action shots from our top-notch photographers.
