Baseball players are notorious for their quirky superstitions, so we were wondering if coaches have any superstitions. It turns out some do, some don't and some did. As a coach, what are your superstitions?

You name it, I've always had them, too. Being a former player as well, I have had a lot. The old Wade Boggs deal, you thought chicken was the answer. He'd eat chicken before every game and I got into that routine. Same pair of underwear and socks, you throw them away if you lost or took an o-fer on the day.

The beautiful thing about superstitions is they can change every game. If things are going well, the first one might be putting your socks on one foot at a time, right to left. Or the way you do the lineup card. Write down the names first and then all the numbers and then all the initials (for positions). Or you might go right down each line and write the position, name and then the number. It changes. I can't say that I have one specific superstition although I do have several things I do throughout the course of the season where I just kind of go with the flow of things if we're playing well.

Game days, I've had two silly superstitions that I no longer adhere to. When I was younger, I always did the dirty sock things, you know, never wash socks that you wore when you won. I mean I wore some crusty socks for a while. The second is I never cut my fingernails on game day. I did it one time and we lost, so I've never done it since. I thought that every time I cut my fingernails on game day, we lost. Now, that's stupid. I don't really worry about it anymore. But the stepping on the lines and stuff like that, none of that bothers me.

I’ve got several. I like to do everything the same on game days. I don’t let the kids walk on the dirt before we start infield. I wear the same clothes from underwear to socks to the same T-shirt, especially when we were going through the regional and state tournament (last season), I didn’t change anything. I washed everything, but I didn’t change anything. Also, coach (Clint) Scrivner and I eat at Sonic for lunch before every game. That’s pretty much it.
